Language that keeps
confidence explicit.
HCIIF uses a defined vocabulary to connect information, evidence, confidence, authority and accountable reliance.
Definitions are concise introductions. The Enterprise Edition and Practitioner Guide provide the full context, relationships and application guidance.

- Accountable Authority
- The authorised role that retains responsibility for accepting, rejecting or conditioning reliance on information.
- CEL
- Confidence Enablement Layer. The role-appropriate confidence context surfaced through existing systems, workflows and AI without manufacturing confidence.
- Confidence Applicability
- Whether a confidence position remains relevant to the particular purpose, context, time and consequence under consideration.
- Confidence Basis
- The evidence, reasoning, assumptions and limitations that explain why a stated level of confidence is justified.
- Confidence Debt
- Accumulated unresolved weaknesses, gaps or overdue actions that reduce confidence or make continued reliance harder to justify.
- Confidence Drift
- A material change in confidence over time as information, evidence, context, systems or intended use change.
- Confidence Event
- A change, discovery or decision that could affect the confidence position, conditions of use or need for review.
- Confidence Gap
- The difference between the confidence required for an intended purpose and the confidence currently supported by the evidence.
- Confidence Lifecycle Management
- The continuing review of confidence as information, evidence, circumstances and intended use change.
- Confidence Recovery
- The controlled restoration of justified confidence following disruption, correction, failure or material change.
- Continual Assurance
- Ongoing testing that the confidence position remains justified and that the supporting controls, evidence and responsibilities remain effective.
- Current Confidence
- The confidence presently supported by the available evidence for the defined purpose.

- Decision and Acceptance Authority
- The authorised roles that make the decision and formally accept the conditions, consequences or risk associated with reliance.
- ECAM
- Enterprise Confidence Assessment Methodology. The structured HCIIF method for assessing what confidence the evidence supports for an intended use.
- EIA
- Enterprise Information Asset. Information treated as an identifiable enterprise asset with purpose, ownership, provenance, relationships and lifecycle responsibilities.
- Enterprise Information Integrity
- The condition in which the basis for trusting and relying on enterprise information is visible, governed and proportionate to purpose and consequence.
- HCIIF
- Human-Centric Information Integrity Framework. An Enterprise Information Integrity Management System for establishing and sustaining justified confidence in information.
- Human-Assured Decision
- A consequential decision in which an accountable human authority retains responsibility for judgement and reliance.
I–P
- IIP
- Information Integrity Passport. A current point-of-reliance view of purpose, provenance, confidence, limitations, Rights, Caveats and review triggers.
- Point of Consequence
- The decision, action or outcome for which information may be relied upon and where the consequences of error or uncertainty become material.
- Provenance
- The traceable origin and history of information, including its sources, custody and material changes.
R–T
- Recall
- The controlled identification, notification and withdrawal or correction of information whose continued use can no longer be justified.
- Required Confidence
- The confidence needed before information can be relied upon for the defined purpose, risk and consequence.
- Rights and Caveats
- The permissions, restrictions, conditions and warnings governing access, use, sharing and reliance.
- Transfer Suitability
- Whether information remains suitable for reliance when transferred to another recipient, system, context or jurisdiction.
- Transformation
- A material change to information through combination, conversion, interpretation, summarisation, modelling or generation.
- Trusted Information
- Information for which reliance is justified for a defined purpose—not information assumed to be universally or permanently trustworthy.
